Who Is SU Arts Engage?

Since it's creation in 2008 by Chancellor Nancy Cantor, SU Arts Engage, office of the Arts Presenter, has been a leading performing arts organization throughout Central New York. As a department of Syracuse University, SU Arts Engage strives to foster collaboration and inspire the Syracuse University and surrounding communities through diverse performance art. By collaborating with other art-affiliated organizations in downtown Syracuse, SU Arts Engage helps bring performing artists to the city of Syracuse consequently merging Syracuse University with the local community by offering events regarding the process, discussion, and performance of art. By commisioning world-renown artists whose work challenges mainstream culture, SU Arts Engage is able to create a local and global dialogue surrounding themes of social, political, and economical public peace.

In the spring of 2012, the office was re-named "SU Arts Engage" to further communicate the University's vision of Scholarship in Action and the organization's intent to engage SU and local communities in conversations surrounding event content. Coined by the University with national recognition, Scholarship in Action is defined by Syracuse University as "a commitment to forging bold, imaginative, reciprocal, and sustained engagements with our many constituent communities, local as well as global." SU Arts Engage embodies this commitment by connecting the University with the local Syracuse community while simultaneously creating a place for interaction through performance art.

SU Arts Engage is a highly collaborative organization that uses its readily transformable workspace to engage with sponsors, consultants, partners, Syracuse University departments, and the local community by holding receptions, meetings, conferences, and university classes while also sharing office space with other Syracuse University departments and temporary projects visiting the city of Syracuse. The diverse network of affiliates and global outreach is credited to helping SU Arts Engage become a leading arts organization. SU Arts Engage is excited to announce this year's performances including Cry For Peace: Voices From The Congo, Atzilut: Concert For Peace, Paul Taylor Dance Company, Meryl Tankard's The Oracle, Rochester City Ballet, Dance Migration, and Harlem String Quartet.
